Le Bristol Tipo 171 Sicomoro è stato uno dei primi elicotteri sviluppato e costruito dalla divisione elicotteri della Bristol Aeroplane Company. Il nome si riferisce ai semi dell'albero di sicomoro, Acer pseudoplatanus, che cadono con un movimento rotatorio. Ha la particolarità di essere il primo elicottero britannico a ricevere un certificato di aeronavigabilità, oltre ad essere il primo elicottero di progettazione britannica ad essere introdotto e a servire con la Royal Air Force (RAF).
