De Bristol Type 171 Plataan was een vroege helikopter ontwikkeld en gebouwd door de helikopterdivisie van de Bristol Aeroplane Company. De naam verwijst naar de zaden van de plataan, Acer pseudoplatanus, die met een roterende beweging vallen. Het onderscheidt zich als de eerste Britse helikopter die een certificaat van luchtwaardigheid ontvangt, evenals de eerste door Groot-Brittannië ontworpen helikopter die wordt geïntroduceerd door en dient bij de Royal Air Force (RAF).
