The Grumman F4F Wildcat est un avion de chasse américain embarqué. Il équipait les porte-avions de l’US Navy et de la Fleet Air Arm britannique en 1940 sous la dénomination Martlet. Le Grumman F4F Wildcat était un chasseur embarqué utilisé par l’US Navy et la Royal Navy anglaise. D’abord utilisé en combat par les Anglais en Europe, le Wildcat fut aussi et surtout utilisé par les Américains dans le théâtre du Pacifique en 1941-1942. Le Wildcat fut remplacé par le rapide Grumman F6F Hellcat pour faire face au Zero. Mais le FM Wildcat fut toujours fabriqué par General Motors pour servir sur les porte-avions d’escorte où des chasseurs plus lourds et plus gros ne pouvaient être utilisés. Le Wildcat était surclassé par le Mitsubishi Zero son principal opposant sur le théâtre Pacifique, mais il réussit quand même à s’imposer principalement grâce à sa capacité à encaisser les dommages. Relativement bien blindé et équipé de réservoirs auto-obturant, le Wildcat pouvait survivre à de nombreux impacts infligés par les Zéros à la surprise de ceux-ci, faiblement blindés.

Photo gallery of a SdKfz 8 12 Ton, The Sonderkraftfahrzeug 8 (“special motorized vehicle 8”) was a German half-track that saw widespread use in World War II. Its main roles were as a prime mover for heavy towed guns such as the 21 cm Mörser 18, the 15 cm Kanone 18 and the 10.5 cm FlaK 38. Approximately 4,000 were produced between 1938 and 1945. It was used in every campaign fought by the Germans in World War II, notably the Invasion of Poland, the Battle of France, the Balkans Campaign, the Eastern Front, the North African Campaign, the Battle of Normandy and the Italian Campaign.

Photo Gallery on a Sd.Kfz.4/1 Maultier, Le SdKfz 4 Gleissketten-Lastkraftwagen or Maultier était le nom d’un type de half-tracks développés au cours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale par l’Allemagne qui, entre 1933 et 1945, a été le leader dans la construction de ces véhicules. Le SdKfz 4 fut développé après l’invasion de la Russie en 1941 parce qu’il s’était avéré que les véhicules commerciaux classiques (essentiellement le Opel-Blitz 3t Type 3,6-36S, le Ford V8 3t Type G 398 TS/V 3000 S, le Magirus Type S 3000 et le Mercedes-Benz 4,5t Type L 4500 R) qui habituellement assuraient le ravitaillement des troupes allemandes s’enlisaient dans la glace et la boue présentes en Russie. Un total de 22 500 half-tracks SdKfz 4 was produced until 1944. Subsequently, the Opel trucks were supplemented with 150 mm Panzerwerfer rocket launchers called SdKfz 4/1, of which about 300 were produced. However, these models did not exceed a speed of 40 km/h due to their extra weight. Each halftrack was equipped with a FuG Spr G radio.

C’est l’un des appareils les plus connus de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, notamment grâce à la série télévisée Les Têtes brûlées. Il s’illustra essentiellement dans le Pacifique, servant à la fois au sein de l’US Navy et de l’US Marine Corps. Le Corsair was mainly deployed during the Pacific campaigns to fight the new enemy of the Imperial Japanese Army from 1943. Between April 7 and 30, 1945, the Corsair was deployed to 305 aircraft by the U.S. Navy for the Battle of Okinawa, with the support of 192 other Marine Corps Corsairs. Out of 600 missions, these units won 124 victories, making the Corsair a legendary aircraft and nicknamed "Sweetheart of Okinawa". In total, the aircraft had more than 2,140 victories, making it the second most credited aircraft in the Pacific, and only 189 aircraft were shot down in air combat.
