The Lavochkin La-7 was a single-seat fighter aircraft that served in the Soviet Air Force during World War II. It was developed by the Lavochkin Design Bureau from the Lavochkin La-5, which itself was derived from the LaGG-1. The La-7 was one of the best Soviet fighters of the war, with a top speed of 661 km/h and a powerful armament of two or three 20 mm cannons.
The La-7 was also more aerodynamic and lighter than its predecessor, thanks to the use of metal wing spars and a redesigned engine cowling and air intake. The La-7 first flew in February 1944 and entered service in June 1944. It participated in many air battles against the German Luftwaffe, especially on the Eastern Front. The La-7 was also used by the Czechoslovak Air Force after the war, until 1950. The La-7 was the last piston-engined fighter produced by Lavochkin, which later switched to jet fighters and space probes.
