el Antonov An-22 "Antei" (ruso: Ан-22 Антей, An-22 Antej; Inglés Antaeus) (designación OTAN "Cock") es un avión de transporte militar pesado diseñado por la Oficina de Diseño Antonov en la Unión Soviética. Propulsado por cuatro motores turbohélice cada uno conduciendo un par de hélices contrarrotatorias, el diseño fue el primer avión de transporte de cuerpo ancho y sigue siendo el avión turbohélice más grande del mundo hasta la fecha. El An-22 apareció por primera vez públicamente fuera de la Unión Soviética en el Salón Aéreo de París de 1965. A partir de entonces, el modelo fue ampliamente utilizado en los principales puentes aéreos militares y humanitarios para la Unión Soviética, y todavía está en servicio con la Fuerza Aérea Rusa.

General Characteristics

The Antonov An-22 Antei (Antaeus) was the world’s first wide-body aircraft and, for a time, the largest aircraft in the world until the introduction of the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. Designed by the Antonov Design Bureau in the 1960s, it was the Soviet Union’s primary heavy strategic airlifter, capable of transporting main battle tanks, missile launchers, and oversized military equipment. The aircraft is distinguished as the largest turboprop-powered aircraft ever built, featuring massive contra-rotating propellers for exceptional short-field performance and the ability to operate from unpaved airstrips.
