Der P-51 Mustang ist ein amerikanisches Kampfflugzeug von North American Aviation entwickelt, das während des Zweiten Weltkriegs verwendet wird. Es wird entwickelt, um den dringenden Bedarf an zusätzlichen Jägern der Briten in 1940 während der Schlacht von England zu erfüllen. Obwohl sein Allison-Motor, dessen Aufladesystem wenig entwickelt ist, aufgrund seiner aerodynamischen Feinheit in geringer Höhe leistungsfähig ist, schränkt er zunächst seinen Einsatz als Luftüberlegenheitsjäger ein. Der Name Mustang das Flugzeug wird von den Briten gegeben, die Amerikaner nannten es zuerst Apache, bevor sie den britischen Namen.
