The Polikarpov I-15 (Russian: -15) is a Soviet biplane fighter of the 1930s. Nicknamed Chaika (Russian: -15, larini), because of its upper wing in seagull2,3, it was widely used by the Soviet Air Force. Along with the Monoplane fighter Polikarpov I-16, he was one of the standard hunters of the Spanish Republicans during the Spanish War, during which he was nicknamed Chato (nose-camus) by the Republican Air Force, or Curtiss (because of his resemblance to the Curtiss F9C Sparrowhawk) by the Nationalists.
