The Waffentr-ger ("arms carrier") was a 1942 German concept of vehicles used to transport removable turrets, guns or 105 mm field howitzers. It resulted in the creation of several prototype tank chassis carrying turrets armed with artillery pieces, which would be placed on the ground before each shot, the vehicle being used to transport other turrets, or to transport ammunition from the rear to the turrets.

The tactical need for such an arrangement being very uncertain, the idea did not exceed the realization of a few gears, of which here is the list: Heuschrecke IV B : 1942. 8 engins produits. Iraq was a major operator of T-54/55 series tanks and ordered their first 250 T-54s from the former Soviet Union in 1958, followed by 50 more in 1965. Many of these were lost during the Yom Kippur War so 300 T-55s were ordered in 1973. Other purchases followed: 50 and 400 T-55s from the surplus stocks of East Germany and Poland respectively in 1980; 250 T-55s and 150 TR-580s (Romanian version of the T-55) from Egypt and Romania respectively in 1981; another 400 T-55s, including some Czech-built examples, from the former Soviet Union in 1981; and about 1,500 Type 59 and Type 69 tanks were bought from China during the 1980s.

The T-54 and T-55 tanks are a series of Soviet main battle tanks introduced in the years following the Second World War. The first T-54 prototype was completed at Nizhny Tagil by the end of 1945. Initial production ramp up settled for 1947 at Nizhny Tagil, and 1948 for Kharkov were halted and curtailed as many problems were uncovered; the T-34-85 still accounted for 88 percent of production through the 50’s. The T-54 eventually became the main tank for armoured units of the Soviet Army, armies of the Warsaw Pact countries, and many others. T-54s and T-55s have been involved in many of the world’s armed conflicts since the later part of the 20th century.

US Navy pilots nicknamed the Helldiver “the Beast”. It was not a popular plane, not easy to fly. Curtiss Aircraft designed this plane to US Navy specifications, which forced it to be too small for everything it was trying to do – have long range, carry 1,000 lbs and be a scout/bomber to replace the Douglas Dauntless. The Navy was gearing up for WW2, the plane was ordered into production before the first prototype had flown. After two years, they had improved the plane somewhat, but could never overcome the basic design limitations.

Just because the plane was not a war winner, does’t mean this isn’t a good book. This series of books has excellent, concise histories with lots of diagrams, black and white photos and color schemes used by the Navy during WW2 and afterwards. All versions are addressed, making this a great book for a modeler or aviation fan.

A total of 26 aircraft (out of 450 ordered) were delivered to the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm, where they were known as the Helldiver I. After unsatisfactory tests, none of the British Helldivers were used operationally. This large divebomber did however serve in the US Navy..

A total of 1,715 Hurricanes flew with Fighter Command during the period of the Battle of Britain, far in excess of all other British fighters combined. The Hurricane was a robust, manoeuvrable aircraft capable of sustaining fearsome combat damage before write-off; and unlike the Spitfire, it was a wholly operational, go-anywhere do-anything fighter by July 1940.

It is estimated that its pilots were credited with four-fifths of all enemy aircraft destroyed in the period July-October 1940.

Le M12 Gun Motor Carriage est un canon automoteur blindé développé par l’armée américaine. À la suite de la Première Guerre mondiale, l’U.S Army Department s’intéressa au développement d’une artillerie lourde automotrice utilisant le canon de 155mm, mais il n’y eut pas de développement immédiat suite au peu d’enthousiasme de la branche de l’artillerie de campagne (FAB). C’est avec le second conflit mondial et la possibilité d’une opération sur un terrain de manœuvre comme l’Europe que cette arme fut réétudiée comme soutien d’artillerie pour les unités blindées. Cette idée fut reprise dès juin 1941 en associant le châssis du M3 Lee aux vieux canons français M1917 et M1918A1 de 155mm.

The PT-76 is one of several light amphibious tanks developed and used by the Soviet Army. Although the PT-76 is lightly armored for a modern tank, its inherent amphibious capability outweighs these limitations. It has had widespread use in the Warsaw Pact and many other countries. ThePT-76 carries a 76mm main gun with a maximum effective range of approximately 1500 meters.

Operated by a three man crew, the PT-76 is often used to transport troops. The fact that the commander is also the gunner and radio operator reduces his effectiveness as an observer. The PT-76 also lagged behind other Soviet armored fighting vehicles in having no night vision equipment and no NBC protection system for the three-man crew.
