2007 K1 on Lõuna-Korea peamine lahingutank, mis on kasutusel Koos Korea Vabariigi relvajõududega, mille on välja töötanud Hyundai Precision (hiljem Hyundai Rotem). Sõiduki varajane projekteerimistöö põhines General Dynamicsi M1 Abramsil, millel olid mõned märgatavad erinevused, sealhulgas kombineeritud hüdropneumaatilise vedrustuse ja pöörderibade süsteem ning jõeületuskoha fordi komplekt, et täita korea poolsaare mägisel ja soisel maastikul toimuvate operatsioonide vastu võitlemiseks spetsiifiline tegevusvõime. K1A1 võeti kasutusele 1999. aastal, täiendati 120 mm silepüstoliga ning varustati Samsung Electronicsi väljatöötatud kaasaegsemate elektroonika-, ballistiliste arvutite ja tuletõrjesüsteemidega. Hyundai Rotem tootis aastatel 1985–2010 1511 K1 ja K1A1 paaki.

General Characteristics

The K1 Main Battle Tank, also referred to as the Type 88 (88 전차), was the first domestically developed tank of the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA). Its design, which began in the early 1980s, was heavily influenced by the US M1 Abrams, but was modified to suit South Korea’s specific operational requirements, particularly its mountainous terrain. This led to unique features like the hybrid hydropneumatic and torsion bar suspension system and a lower profile than the M1 Abrams. The K1 series remains the backbone of the ROKA’s armored forces.
