das K1 Der südkoreanische Hauptkampfpanzer ist ein südkoreanischer Hauptkampfpanzer, der von Hyundai Precision (später Hyundai Rotem) entwickelt wurde. Die frühen Konstruktionsarbeiten des Fahrzeugs basierten auf den M1 Abrams von General Dynamics, mit einigen auffälligen Unterschieden, darunter ein kombiniertes System von hydropneumatischen Aufhängungs- und Torsionsstangen und ein Flusskreuz-Fording-Kit, um die erforderliche Einsatzfähigkeit zu erfüllen, die speziell für den Kampf einsatzfähig im bergigen und sumpfigen Gelände der koreanischen Halbinsel war. Der K1A1 wurde 1999 in Dienst, mit einer 120-mm-Glattpistole aufgerüstet und mit modernerer Elektronik, ballistischen Computern und Feuerleitsystemen ausgestattet, die von Samsung Electronics entwickelt wurden. Hyundai Rotem produzierte zwischen 1985 und 2010 1.511 K1- und K1A1-Tanks.

General Characteristics
The K1 Main Battle Tank, also referred to as the Type 88 (88 전차), was the first domestically developed tank of the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA). Its design, which began in the early 1980s, was heavily influenced by the US M1 Abrams, but was modified to suit South Korea’s specific operational requirements, particularly its mountainous terrain. This led to unique features like the hybrid hydropneumatic and torsion bar suspension system and a lower profile than the M1 Abrams. The K1 series remains the backbone of the ROKA’s armored forces.
