Komisia K1 Je to hlavný juhokórejský bojový tank, ktorý sa používa v ozbrojených silách Kórejskej republiky, vyvinutý spoločnosťou Hyundai Precision (neskôr Hyundai Rotem). Rané konštrukčné práce vozidla boli založené na M1 Abrams spoločnosti General Dynamics, s niektorými výraznými rozdielmi vrátane kombinovaného systému hydropneumatického odpruženia a torzných tyčí a súpravy na brodenie prechádzajúce riekou, aby spĺňali požadované prevádzkové schopnosti, ktoré boli špecifické pre bojové operácie v hornatom a bažinatom teréne Kórejského polostrova. K1A1 vstúpil do prevádzky v roku 1999, bol vylepšený 120 mm hladkou pištoľou a vybavený modernejšou elektronikou, balistickými počítačmi a protipožiarnymi systémami vyvinutými spoločnosťou Samsung Electronics. Hyundai Rotem vyrobil v rokoch 1985 až 2010 1 511 tankov K1 a K1A1.

General Characteristics

The K1 Main Battle Tank, also referred to as the Type 88 (88 전차), was the first domestically developed tank of the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA). Its design, which began in the early 1980s, was heavily influenced by the US M1 Abrams, but was modified to suit South Korea’s specific operational requirements, particularly its mountainous terrain. This led to unique features like the hybrid hydropneumatic and torsion bar suspension system and a lower profile than the M1 Abrams. The K1 series remains the backbone of the ROKA’s armored forces.
