el Boeing C-97 Stratofreighter fue un avión de carga militar pesada de largo alcance desarrollado a partir de los bombarderos B-29 y B-50. El trabajo de diseño comenzó en 1942, el primero de los 3 prototipos XC-97 voló el 9 de noviembre de 1944 (ninguno vio combate), y el primero de los 6 YC-97 de prueba de servicio voló el 11 de marzo de 1947. Todos estos se basaban en la estructura de aleación 24ST y los motores Wright R-3350 del B-29 pero con un lóbulo superior del fuselaje de mayor diámetro (haciendo una figura de ocho o sección de 'doble burbuja') y tenían la cola vertical B-29 con la posición de los artilleros en blanco. Entre 1944 y 1958, se construyeron 888 C-97 en varias versiones, siendo 811 kc-97 petroleros. Los C-97 sirvieron en el puente aéreo de Berlín, la Guerra de Corea y la Guerra de Vietnam.
