The Piper PA-18 Super Cub is a versatile and reliable aircraft that has been in production for over 40 years. It is a two-seat, single-engine monoplane that can be used for training, liaison, reconnaissance, bush flying, glider towing and more. The Super Cub has a high-lift wing and a powerful engine that allow it to take off and land in very short distances, even on rough terrain or water. The Super Cub was introduced in 1949 by Piper Aircraft as a development of the PA-11 Cub Special, which itself was derived from the J-3 Cub of the 1930s. The Super Cub has a larger cabin, metal wing spars, flaps, fuel tanks in the wings, a fully cowled engine and a front pilot seat. The Super Cub also has various engine options ranging from 90 to 180 horsepower. The most common models are the PA-18-95 with a Continental C-90 engine of 95 horsepower and the PA-18-150 with a Lycoming O-320 engine of 150 horsepower.
The Super Cub has proven to be a popular and durable aircraft that has served many purposes around the world. It has also been used by several military forces as the L-18 or PA-19 for observation and communication missions.
