General Characteristics and Role
The Gippsland GA8 Airvan is an Australian utility aircraft designed and built by GippsAero (formerly Gippsland Aeronautics). Developed in the 1990s, the Airvan was created to fill a gap in the market for a simple, rugged, and reliable piston-engined aircraft capable of carrying up to eight people (including the pilot) or a substantial cargo load into short, unprepared, or remote airstrips. Its high-wing, fixed-gear design and large, flat-floor cabin make it highly versatile for roles such as passenger transport, freight hauling, parachute dropping, aerial survey, and medical evacuation. It is often described as a modern, single-engine alternative to older utility aircraft.
