Den Polikarpov I-15 was a Soviet biplane fighter aircraft of the 1930s. It was designed by Nikolai Polikarpov and first flew in 1933. The I-15 was one of the most widely produced and used fighters of the Soviet Air Force in the early years of World War II. It had a distinctive gull-wing configuration and was armed with four 7.62 mm machine guns. The I-15 was also exported to several countries, including China, Spain, and Mongolia. The I-15 saw combat in the Spanish Civil War, the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Winter War, and the Eastern Front. It was gradually replaced by more modern monoplane fighters such as the I-16 and the Yak-1, but some variants remained in service until 1945.
