Tthe Bell P-39 “Airacobra” was one of the principal fighter aircraft in service with American forces at the start of World War II. It was build by the Bell Aircraft Corporation. Its maiden flight was in April 1939. The aircraft’s unusual design featured an Allison engine mounted in the middle of the fuselage, just behind the pilot, driving the propeller through a driveshaft passing between the pilot’s feet. A 37 mm T9 cannon fired through the center of the propeller hub. Entry to the cockpit was through a side door. A Total of 9,584 examples were produced, with over half being sent to the Soviet Union under the lend-lease program.

Niemiecki Jagdpanther ( Jagdpanther ) is regarded by the ordnance experts as one of the best tracked weapons systems during the World War 2. The awesome Pak43/3, L71 88mm gun was mounted on the proven Panther medium tank chassis. The gun was installed into the box shaped superstructure which used thick steel armor of 80mm at the front and 50mm at the sides. These frontal and side armor plates were effectively inclined to obtain an improved protection. The gun mantlet called “Saukopf” (sow head) had a thickness of 100mm.

A ball mounted MG42 bow machine gun was installed at the right side of the main gun. Weighing in at 46 tons and propelled by the powerful Maybach V12 cylinder engine, this tank destroyer had a well-balanced fire power, protection and mobility to high standards. Mass production started in January 1944 at MIAG firm, and during its production career, several improvements and alterations were made with feedback from the front lines. Early production models used a nearly flush gun mantlet collar, but it was replaced with a larger, bolt-fixed collar in October 1944. Larger diameter idler wheels were introduced at the same time. A heater for the crew compartment, and the same exhaust covers as equipped on the late production Panther G tanks were added, beginning from December. The Jagdpanther was first deployed to the Normandy campaign in June 1944, and 415 units were produced until April 1945.

Tthe Macchi MC 200, designed by renowned engineer Mario Castoldi, has been a significant evolution in the production of Italian fighter planes. Compared to biplane Fiat Fiat CR 32 and CR 42, which were still at the beginning of the Second World War, the backbone of the Italian fighter squadrons, the Macchi MC 200 was characterized, along with his contemporary Fiat G50, for a monoplane configuration and for the metal construction throughout.

The 14-cylinder radial engine Fiat A.74 RC 38 double star could provide a power of 840 horses, and to reach a Macchi Mc 200 to 500 km / h. Compared to the corresponding hunting allies the Macchi Mc 200 was, however, not very powerful and, above all, little concrete. The armament consisted of two sun-machine guns Breda SAFAT 12.7 mm mounted above the characteristic of the engine cowling dimpled. In later versions were added two Breda machine guns-SAFAT 7.7 mm in the wings. It has been used by the Royal Air Force on the main fronts of the Second Mondial War in Africa, the Mediterranean, the Balkans and Russia.

Tthe FM-2 Dziki was designed and prototyped by Grumman Aircraft. More than 4000 were built by the Eastern Aircraft Division of the General Motors Company between 1943 – 1945. These aircraft incorporated a lighter airframe and a more powerful engine. This meant there was a physical design difference between the F4F and the FM-2 (polski). The FM-2 had a taller vertical tail for stability to counter the increased torque of the engine. Armament consisted of 4 – .50 cal. guns, 2 – external bomb or fuel racks and air to ground rocket launch points on the wings. These aircraft were primarily operated from escort carriers to support ground operations in the Pacific theater of operations. These same aircraft were teamed with Grumman Avengers and used in anti-sub operations in the Atlantic against U-boats.

Tthe Waffenträger ("nosiciel broni") – niemiecka koncepcja pojazdów z 1942 roku przeznaczonych do przenoszenia zdejmowanych wież, uzbrojonych w działa polowe lub haubice 105 mm. Zaowocowało to stworzeniem kilku prototypowych podwozi czołgów przenoszących wieże uzbrojone w artyleryjskie kawałki, które przed każdym strzałem osadzano na ziemi, a pojazd był następnie wykorzystywany do transportu innych wież lub do transportu amunicji z tyłu do wieży.

Taktyczna potrzeba takiego układu była bardzo niepewna, pomysł nie wykraczał poza realizację kilku maszyn, z których oto lista: Heuschrecke IV B : 1942. 8 engins produits. Czołgi T-54 i T-55 to seria radzieckich czołgów głównych, wprowadzonych w latach po II wojnie światowej. Pierwszy prototyp T-54 został ukończony w Niżnym Tagilu pod koniec 1945 roku. Początkowa produkcja w 1947 roku w Niżnym Tagilu, a w 1948 dla Charkowa została wstrzymana i ograniczona, ponieważ wiele problemów zostało odkrytych; T-34-85 nadal stanowiły 88 procent produkcji w latach 50-tych. US Navy pilots nicknamed the Helldiver “the Beast”. It was not a popular plane, not easy to fly. Curtiss Aircraft designed this plane to US Navy specifications, which forced it to be too small for everything it was trying to do – have long range, carry 1,000 lbs and be a scout/bomber to replace the Douglas Dauntless. The Navy was gearing up for WW2, the plane was ordered into production before the first prototype had flown. After two years, they had improved the plane somewhat, but could never overcome the basic design limitations.

Just because the plane was not a war winner, does’t mean this isn’t a good book. This series of books has excellent, concise histories with lots of diagrams, black and white photos and color schemes used by the Navy during WW2 and afterwards. All versions are addressed, making this a great book for a modeler or aviation fan.
