It was developed by the Fratelli Nardi company in Italy, based on a design by Filippo Zappata. The first prototype flew in 1935 and showed excellent performance and handling. The aircraft had a low-wing cantilever configuration with retractable landing gear and a Fiat A.70 S inline engine. It could accommodate one or two crew members, depending on the variant, and was optionally armed with one or two Breda-SAFAT machine guns.
