The Aérospatiale AS555UN Fennec 2 is a twin-engine utility helicopter developed and manufactured by the French company Aérospatiale, later known as Eurocopter and now Airbus Helicopters. It is based on the AS355 Ecureuil 2 series and is named after the fennec fox, a small desert animal. The AS555UN Fennec 2 is a versatile and adaptable helicopter that can perform various missions such as training, transport, reconnaissance, surveillance, search and rescue, and light attack. It can be fitted with different types of equipment and weapons, such as a 20 mm cannon, rocket pods, machine gun pods, torpedoes, or air-to-air missiles.
The AS555UN Fennec 2 has a four-blade main rotor and a Fenestron tail rotor that reduce noise and increase safety. It is powered by two Turbomeca Arrius 1A1 turboshaft engines that provide high performance and reliability. The AS555UN Fennec 2 has a spacious cabin that can accommodate up to six passengers or two stretchers. It has a glass cockpit with digital avionics and a four-axis autopilot that enhance situational awareness and flight control.
