2007 Šiaurės Amerikos F-82 dvigubas mustangas is the last American piston-engine fighter ordered into production by the United States Air Force. Based on the P-51 Mustang, the F-82 was originally designed as a long-range escort fighter in World War II. The war ended well before the first production units were operational.

The North American F-82 Twin Mustang was a unique fighter aircraft that combined two fuselages of the P-51 Mustang on a single wing. It was designed as a long-range escort fighter for the B-29 Superfortress bombers during World War II, but it entered service too late to see combat in that war. However, it proved its value in the Korean War, where it was used as a night fighter and an interceptor. The F-82 was the last piston-engined fighter ordered into production by the United States Air Force, and it represented the peak of propeller-driven fighter technology.
