USS Bunker Hill (CG-52) is a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser of the United States Navy laid down by Litton-Ingalls Shipbuilding Corporation at Pascagoula, Mississippi on 11 January 1984, launched on 11 March 1985, and commissioned on 20 September 1986. Bunker Hill is homeported at Naval Base San Diego in San Diego, California. Bunker Hill was the first Ticonderoga-class cruiser to be equipped with the Mark 41 Vertical Launching System (VLS) in place of the previous ships’ twin-arm Mark 26 missile launchers, which greatly improved the flexibility and firepower of the ships by allowing them to fire RGM-109 Tomahawk missiles.

USS Bunker Hill (CG-52) is a powerful and versatile warship of the United States Navy. It belongs to the Ticonderoga-class of guided missile cruisers, which are equipped with the advanced Aegis Combat System and the Mark 41 Vertical Launching System. These systems allow the ship to perform a variety of missions, such as air defense, ballistic missile defense, land attack, anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare. The ship was built by Litton-Ingalls Shipbuilding Corporation at Pascagoula, Mississippi and launched on 11 March 1985. It was commissioned on 20 September 1986 and named after the Battle of Bunker Hill, a pivotal battle of the American Revolutionary War. The ship’s motto is “Determination, Deterrence” and its nickname is “Bravo”.
The ship has a length of 567 feet, a beam of 55 feet and a draft of 34 feet. It has a displacement of about 9,600 tons and a speed of 32.5 knots. It has a crew of 30 officers and 300 enlisted personnel. The ship’s armament includes 122 missiles of various types, such as RIM-66 Standard, RIM-156 SM-2ER, RIM-161 SM-3, RIM-162 ESSM, RIM-174 Standard ERAM, BGM-109 Tomahawk and RUM-139 VL-ASROC. It also has 8 Harpoon missiles, 2 5-inch guns, 2 Phalanx CIWS, 2 Mk 38 machine guns, 4 .50-caliber machine guns and 2 Mk 32 torpedo tubes. The ship can carry 2 Sikorsky SH-60B or MH-60R Seahawk helicopters for anti-submarine and anti-surface operations. The ship has participated in several operations and exercises in various regions of the world, such as the Persian Gulf, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea. It has also supported humanitarian and disaster relief missions in countries like Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines. The ship has earned several awards and honors for its outstanding performance and readiness, such as 7 Battle “E” Awards, the Navy Unit Commendation and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.
