Tthe 록히드 S-3 바이킹 is a four-seat, twin-engine jet aircraft that was used by the U.S. Navy primarily for anti-submarine warfare. It was also capable of performing other missions such as aerial refueling, electronic warfare, and surface surveillance. The S-3 Viking entered service in 1974 and was retired in 2009, after more than 30 years of operation.
The S-3 Viking was designed to operate from aircraft carriers and had a range of over 2,000 miles. It was equipped with a variety of sensors and weapons, including sonobuoys, torpedoes, missiles, and bombs. The S-3 Viking was known for its versatility and reliability, as well as its distinctive sound, which earned it the nickname “Hoover” after the vacuum cleaner.
