ザ Type 80/88 main battle tank is a family of Chinese second-generation MBTs that were developed in the 1980s to replace the obsolete Type 59 and Type 69 tanks. The Type 80/88 tanks are based on the Type 79 tank, but with a new chassis, engine, suspension and main gun. The Type 80/88 tanks use a 105mm rifled gun that can fire APFSDS, HEAT and HE rounds. The tanks also have a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun and a roof-mounted 12.7mm machine gun for anti-aircraft defense.
