Il Panzerjâger 38(t) per 7,62 cm Pak36. chiamato anche Panzerselbstfahrlafette II o Sd.Kfz.139. Più comunemente noto come "Marder III". Questa era una tipica misura di stop-gap per il ramo anticarro che era pesantemente sotto armato. Ciò fu evidente dopo che le ostilità ricominciarono l'URSS nel 1941. Il veicolo è un'interessante combinazione di una pistola catturata russa basata sui concetti della compagnia tedesca Rheinmetall-Borsig degli anni '30 e del Pz.Kfw. 3 (t) Auf.G e H. Un carro armato sviluppato per il ceco ed esclusivamente costruito nelle fabbriche ceche di BMM per l'esercito tedesco.

The Marder III was a series of World War II German tank destroyers (Panzerjäger). It was developed as a stopgap measure to counter the superior armor of Soviet tanks like the T-34 and KV-1 encountered on the Eastern Front.

Key Characteristics

Chassis Base: Built on the highly reliable chassis of the obsolete Czech Panzer 38(t) light tank.
Ruolo: Primarily used as a mobile anti-tank gun in defensive or ambush roles, due to its powerful main gun.
Vulnerability: Featured an open-topped fighting compartment and minimal, thin armor, making the crew highly exposed to artillery and infantry fire. Its high silhouette also made it easier to spot.

The Marder III series was eventually replaced by the more advanced and fully enclosed Jagdpanzer 38(t) ‘Hetzer’, which offered significantly better armor protection on a further modified Panzer 38(t) chassis.
