Tá Panhard AML (Auto Mitrailleuse Légère, nebo "Light Armoured Car") je rychlý, dálkově a relativně levný obrněný vůz první generace s vynikajícími průzkumnými schopnostmi. Je navržen na malém, lehce pancéřovém podvozku 4×4 a váží odhadem 5,5 tuny – mnohem lehčí než tank – a je proto vhodnější pro rychlé nasazení ve vzduchu. Od roku 1959 jsou AML uváděny na trh až na pěti kontinentech; několik variant zůstalo v nepřetržité výrobě po dobu půl století.
