47 mm SA modele 1937 In the 1930s the French artillery sought a replacement for the derivatives of the 75 mm mle 1897 field gun it used in the anti-tank role. The chosen weapon was a design of the state-owned arsenal Atelier de Puteaux , and was designated as canon de 47 mm semi-automatique mle 1937. It was a very efficient weapon, especially given the thin armour of German tanks of the time. Unfortunately for France, the 47 SA 37 still was relatively rare at the time of the Battle of France. Examples captured by the German forces were operationally used under the designation 4.7 cm Pak 141(f).

The new 3.7 cm Flak 43 was a dramatic improvement over the older models. A new gas-operated breech improved the practical firing rate to 150 RPM, while at the same time dropping in weight to 1,250 kg in combat , and mere 2,000 kg in transport. The barrel was shortened to 89 calibers. It was also produced in a twin-gun mount, the 3.7 cm Flakzwilling 43, although this version was considered somewhat unwieldy and top-heavy. Large-scale production did not start until 1944 and about 7,216 were produced by end of the war (Zwillings included, each counted as two guns).

USS West Virginia (BB-48), a Colorado-class battleship, was the second ship of the United States Navy named in honor of the 35th state. Her keel was laid down on 12 April 1920 by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company of Newport News, Virginia. She was launched on 19 November 1921 sponsored by Miss Alice Wright Mann, daughter of Isaac T. Mann, a prominent West Virginian; and commissioned on 1 December 1923, Captain Thomas J. Senn in command.[1] As the most recent of the “super-dreadnoughts”, West Virginia embodied the latest knowledge of naval architecture; the watertight compartmentation of her hull, and the scale of her armor protection, marked an advance over the design of battleships built, or on the drawing boards before the Battle of Jutland.

Dragon’s new 1/35 scale kit of the Pz.Bef.Wg.III Ausf.J depicts a command tank fitted with a 5cm L/42 main armament. Whereas earlier Panzer III command tanks were fitted with dummy cannons, the Ausf.J retained its main cannon. This kit allows modelers to fill a gap in the Panzer III family tree, and it is produced to the very best engineering levels. Indeed, this is Dragon’s first Panzerbefehlswagen III built to the latest standards. While it does wisely utilize parts from recent Panzer III kits, it also features entirely unique components such as a rear-mounted star antenna and frontal armor without a bow MG fitted. Furthermore, true-to-scale Schurzen armor plates are installed on the hull sides. All in all, this kit forms an interesting and different Panzer III kit for modelers’ collections and dioramas.

Harley-Davidson produced large numbers of motorcycles for the US Army in World War II and resumed civilian production afterwards, producing a range of large V-twin motorcycles that were successful both on racetracks and for private buyers. Harley-Davidson, on the eve of World War II, was already supplying the Army with a military-specific version of its 45 cubic inches (740 cc) WL line, called the WLA. The A in this case stood for “Army”. Upon the outbreak of war, the company, along with most other manufacturing enterprises, shifted to war work. More than 90,000 military motorcycles, mostly WLAs and WLCs (the Canadian version) were produced, many to be provided to allies.
