The Shenyang J-8 is a Chinese interceptor aircraft that was developed in the 1960s as a scaled-up version of the MiG-21. It has a distinctive nose air intake and two ventral fins. The NATO reporting name for the J-8 is Finback. The J-8 was upgraded to the J-8II variant, which has a conventional radome and side air intakes, a more powerful radar and engine, and a different tail design. The J-8II has several sub-variants, such as the J-8B, J-8F, and J-8G, with different weapons and avionics systems. The J-8 is still in service with the People’s Liberation Army Air Force and Naval Air Force, but is gradually being replaced by more modern fighters like the J-10 and J-11.
