The Dassault MD 315 Flamant (“Flamingo”) is a French light twin-engined transport, utility, and trainer aircraft built by Dassault Aviation shortly after World War II. It was the first production aircraft from Dassault after the war and was instrumental in modernizing the French Air Force, replacing older wartime types in roles ranging from pilot training to colonial communications and light attack.

Design and Powerplant

Variants: The Flamant family included three main production models:
- MD 315: Ten-seat colonial communications and utility transport.
- MD 312: Six-seat liaison and multi-engine pilot training aircraft.
- MD 311: Navigation and bombing trainer with a distinctive glazed nose.
Legacy: The aircraft was instrumental in restarting French military aviation production after the war and later served as a testbed for the avionics of the Transall C-160 and the radar of the Mirage IV.
