One of five King George V-class battleships constructed between 1937 and 1942, the H.M.S. Duke of York was built by Scotland’s John Brown and Company. In 1943’s Battle of North Cape, she helped in the sinking of the German battleship Scharnhorst. After WWII, she became the flagship of the Home Fleet until 1949, and was scrapped in 1957. The U.S.S. Yorktown (CV-5) was the lead ship of the Yorktown Class,. She entered service in September, 1937, and was stationed throughout the Atlantic until the Pearl Harbor attack in December, 1941. After being transferred to the Pacific, the U.S.S. Yorktown played important roles in the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway. During the latter battle, she sank after being struck by torpedoes from the Japanese submarine I-168. For her heroic efforts, the Yorktown (CV-5) was awarded three battle stars.

Z38, ki je bil splavljen 5. avgusta 1941, je bil predzadnji rušilec podrazreda 1936A (Mob), zgrajen za Kriegsmarine. It is hard to overestimate the role of minelayers in naval combat. The German Navy used these elongated U-boats to place mines near enemy shipping routes. The Type VIID featured five mine silos, located just behind the conning tower. Each silo could store up to three mines each, making the Type VIID a formidable foe for the Allies. Ena največjih in najtežjih bojnih ladij, ki so jih kdaj zgradili, je Yamato pri polni obremenitvi izpodrinila neverjetnih 72.800 ton. Oborožena je bila z devetimi glavnimi topovi kalibra 46 cm (18 palcev), kar je največje topništvo kalibra, ki je bilo kdaj zabeleženo za katero koli vojno ladjo. Presenetljivo je, da je Yamato edini čas streljal s puškami med bitko v zalivu Leyte oktobra 1944. Danes njena zapuščina živi v muzeju Yamato, ki je bil odprt leta 2005, da bi obiskovalce izobraževal o bogati pomorski zgodovini Japonske. Komplet vsebuje trup vodne črte in protiletalske topove.

USS Indianapolis (CA-35), ki je bila splavljena 7. novembra 1931, je bila druga ladja, ki je dobila ime po glavnem mestu zvezne države Indiana. Kmalu po izbruhu druge svetovne vojne ji je bilo ukazano, da služi v južnem Pacifiku. Indianapolis je prevažal uran, ki je bil uporabljen za izdelavo atomske bombe "Little Boy", ki je bila odvržena na Hirošimo. 30. julija 1945 jo je torpedirala japonska podmornica I-58 in se potopila v dvanajstih minutah. Do prihoda reševalnih ladij je bilo nekaj več kot 300 preživelih (od 1.196 članov posadke).
