The GTK Boxer is an 8×8 Multi-Role Armoured Vehicle (MRAV) developed by a German-Dutch consortium (ARTEC, a joint venture of Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann). Its defining feature is its unique modular design, allowing for rapid mission reconfiguration.
Key Modular Concept
The Boxer consists of two main interchangeable elements:
- Drive Module: The common 8×8 chassis containing the powerpack, driver’s station, and running gear.
- Mission Module: A removable, self-contained armored cabin tailored for a specific role (e.g., APC, Ambulance, Command Post). This module can be swapped out in less than one hour under field conditions.
🛡️ Protection and Armament
The Boxer is one of the most protected wheeled vehicles in service, designed to counter a wide spectrum of threats.
- Armor: High-hardness steel hull with **Advanced Modular Armour Protection (AMAP)** composite armor.
- Threat Protection: Provides high-level protection against heavy machine-gun fire, artillery shell fragments, mines, and IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices).
- NBC System: Standard Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical protection system.
- Common Armament: Varies by nation and role, typically a Remote Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS) armed with:
- 12.7 mm Heavy Machine Gun (HMG) or
- 40 mm Automatic Grenade Launcher (AGL)
