The Boeing EC-135 is a retired family of command and control aircraft derived from the Boeing C-135 Stratolifter. The EC-135 was used by the United States Air Force for various missions, such as airborne command post, airborne launch control center, tracking and telemetry platform, and airborne radio relay. The EC-135 was best known for its role in Operation Looking Glass, where one EC-135 was always airborne 24 hours a day to serve as a flying command post for the Strategic Air Command in case of nuclear war. The EC-135 also supported the Apollo space program by tracking and communicating with the spacecraft. The EC-135 was introduced in 1961 and retired in 2000.
