The M422 Mighty Mite was a lightweight 4×4 utility truck that was designed for airlifting and manhandling by the United States Marine Corps. It was produced by American Motors Corporation from 1959 to 1962, and was the first U.S. jeep to have an aluminum body and independent suspension. The M422 was powered by an air-cooled V4 engine that delivered 55 horsepower and could reach a top speed of 62 mph. The M422 had a low profile, a fold-down windshield, and could carry up to six people with additional fold-up seats. The M422 was also equipped with a deep-water fording kit and limited-slip differentials. The M422 was used in various missions, including reconnaissance, liaison, and cargo transport. The M422 was a remarkable vehicle that met the requirements of the Marine Corps for a small, agile, and versatile truck.
