The Puma was originally built by Sud Aviation of France, and continued to be made by Aérospatiale. It was also license-built in Romania as the IAR 330; an advanced, unlicensed derivative, the Atlas Oryx, was made in South Africa. The Puma was a commercial success and was quickly developed into more advanced models such as the AS332 Super Puma and AS532 Cougar, manufactured by Eurocopter since the early 1990s. These descendants of the Puma remain in production in the 21st century.

Повече информация:

The Aerospatiale SA330B Puma is a medium-lift transport helicopter developed by the French company Aerospatiale in the 1960s. It was designed to meet the requirements of the French Army for a versatile and reliable helicopter capable of carrying troops, cargo, and weapons. The Puma has a four-blade main rotor and a tail rotor mounted on the left side of the tail boom. It is powered by two Turbomeca Turmo IV turboshaft engines that drive the main rotor through a gearbox. The Puma can carry up to 16 passengers or 2,500 kg of cargo in its cabin, or up to 3,000 kg of external load on a sling. The Puma can also be fitted with various weapons, such as machine guns, rocket pods, or anti-tank missiles.
The Puma entered service with the French Army in 1969 and was exported to several countries, including the United Kingdom, South Africa, Romania, and Argentina. The Puma has seen combat in various conflicts, such as the Falklands War, the Gulf War, the Bosnian War, and the War in Afghanistan. The Puma has also been used for humanitarian missions, such as disaster relief and peacekeeping. The Puma is still in service with some operators, but has been replaced or upgraded by newer models, such as the Eurocopter AS332 Super Puma and the Eurocopter EC225.
