USS Little Rock (CL-92/CLG-4/CG-4) was one of 27 United States Navy Cleveland-class light cruisers completed during or shortly after World War II, and one of six to be converted to guided missile cruisers. She was the first US Navy ship to be named for Little Rock, Arkansas. Commissioned in mid-1945, she was completed too late to see combat duty during World War II. After an initial South American cruise, she spent the next few years serving off the east coast of the U.S., in the Caribbean, and in the Mediterranean. Like all but one of her sister ships, she was retired in the post-war defense cutbacks, becoming part of the Atlantic Reserve Fleet in 1949.

Mais informações:

The USS Little Rock cruiser is a historic naval ship that served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1976. She was one of the 27 Cleveland-class light cruisers built during or shortly after World War II, and one of the six that were converted to guided missile cruisers in the late 1950s. She was the first US Navy ship to be named after the city of Little Rock, Arkansas.
The USS Little Rock cruiser participated in various missions and operations during the Cold War, such as patrolling the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, serving as a flagship of the Second and Sixth Fleets, and showing a presence of force during times of crisis. She was equipped with two Mark II Talos missile launchers, three 6-inch guns, and two 5-inch/38 caliber guns. She also had a large superstructure and an admiral’s quarters to accommodate her role as a flagship.
The USS Little Rock cruiser was decommissioned in 1976 and stricken from the Naval Vessel Register. She was donated to the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park in Buffalo, New York, where she is now a museum ship and the only surviving Cleveland-class cruiser. She is also the only guided missile cruiser on display in the world. She is a proud reminder of the naval history and heritage of the United States.
