The Jagdpanzer Kanone 90 (also known as Kanonenjagdpanzer or KanJPz) was a West German tank destroyer that was armed with a 90 mm anti-tank gun derived from obsolete M47 Patton tanks. It was designed in the 1960s and resembled the World War II Jagdpanzer IV in its low-profile casemate design. The Jagdpanzer Kanone 90 had a four-man crew and a welded steel hull with a maximum armor thickness of 50 mm.
It was highly mobile and could reach a speed of 70 km/h on road. However, it became outdated when the Soviet Union introduced the T-64 and T-72 main battle tanks, which were immune to its 90 mm gun at long range. Some of the Jagdpanzer Kanone 90 were converted into missile carriers or artillery observation vehicles, while others remained in service with the home defense forces until 1990.
