The CASA C-101 Aviojet is a jet-powered aircraft that can perform both training and light attack missions. It was designed and manufactured by the Spanish company CASA, with technical assistance from MBB and Northrop. The C-101 first flew in 1977 and entered service with the Spanish Air Force in 1980, replacing the older Hispano Saeta trainers. The C-101 has a low-wing configuration, a single Garrett TFE731-2-2J turbofan engine, and a tandem cockpit for two crew members.
The C-101 can carry a variety of weapons, including a 30 mm cannon, air-to-air missiles, rockets, bombs, and guided munitions. The C-101 has been exported to Chile, Honduras, and Jordan, and has been used for aerobatic displays by the Patrulla Aguila team of the Spanish Air Force. The C-101 is still in service as of 2023, but it is planned to be replaced by the Pilatus PC-21 and the Airbus Future Jet Trainer in Spain.
