General Characteristics and Role

The Embraer A-29 Super Tucano is a versatile turboprop aircraft designed for light attack, close air support, counter-insurgency (COIN), and advanced training missions. Developed and manufactured by Embraer of Brazil, it evolved from the EMB-312 Tucano trainer. The Super Tucano is distinguished by its rugged, durable design, low operational cost, and sophisticated avionics, making it ideal for operating from short, unprepared airstrips in austere environments. It is a highly successful export aircraft, used by numerous air forces, particularly in South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, for border patrol and combating drug trafficking and non-state actors.
