Dragon has released a 1/35 scale kit of “Coelian” before, but now it has become more attractive than ever! As an Orange Box item, the kit has been upgraded. The kit is equipped with a new set of Panther Magic Tracks, but most useful of all perhaps is the inclusion of a set of figures. The 1/35 figure set is a set of four German tank riders. They are totally suited to the vehicle, for they are late-war figures designed specially to fit on a Panther engine deck. With the bundled figures, this Flakpanzer V “Coelian” is an extremely attractive proposition that comes at a very reasonable price.

The Panther was a hugely successful tank within the ranks of the German military during WWII. A number of variants based on the Panther were built, including the Bergepanther recovery vehicle. However, there are other lesser-known variants that didn’t enter full-series production, one of which was the Flakpanzer V. Rheinmetall-Borsig began developing this antiaircraft vehicle in December 1943. Its main armament was twin 3.7cm FlaK 43 cannons mounted in an armored turret with a full 360^(o) traverse. One other feature of the turret was that it permitted the guns to be elevated almost vertically when taking on marauding enemy aircraft. The official designation of the vehicle was Flakpanzer 341, but it was commonly referred to as the Flakpanzer V “Coelian”.

Une paire de canons Flak 43 37mm devait être montée sur la tourelle du tank, ces canons généraient une grande masse de shrapnel à l’explosion ce qui ne nécessitait pas un coup direct sur l’avion visé.

Une maquette de la marque Cyber-Hobby le kit : «German Super Tank Maus – Cyber-Hobby 9133». Cyber-Hobby has come up with a real heavyweight duo in its latest 1/35 scale Orange Box item. The set contains the German heavy tank design known as Maus, while the accompanying figures are composed of a German tank hunter team. What could be more effective than this powerful combination? An impregnable tank and a mobile antitank team! The Maus tank, if it had been completed, would have weighed in at a staggering 188 tons. This super-heavy tank was armed with a 12.8cm gun and coaxial 7.5cm KwK44 cannon. Design work kicked off in 1942 under Hitler’s orders, and the V1 prototype with simulated turret was tested in December 1943. It subsequently received a turret and was tested in June 1944. However, such an iron behemoth was understandably beset by mechanical and engine difficulties, and the prototypes never saw combat. Nevertheless, Dragon’s classic kit of this unique vehicle accurately depicts what the Maus could have been had it entered German service. Parts fit together easily to create the monobloc appearance of this mighty vehicle. The vehicle is protected by a team of German soldiers armed with a range of late-war antitank weapons such as the 8.8cm Panzerschreck and Panzerfaust. The figures are sharply sculpted and are depicted in realistic poses. Being the first time that Orange Box has released such a heavy tank, this super-heavyweight set possesses a decisive one-two knockout punch. Yet despite the enormous size of the contents, the price of the 1/35 scale set remains commendably modest!

Il Supermarine Spitfire Mk VII viene sviluppato con il preciso scopo di dotare la RAF britannica di un efficace caccia d’alta quota. La precedente versione Mk VI non venne infatti ritenuta idonea per l’impiego operativo e per fronteggiare possibili incursioni, peraltro mai avvenute, di bombardieri d’alta quota.

Il Mk VII, soprattutto nella configurazione con il potente ed affidabile motore Merlin 71, riusciva a raggiungere i 13.700 metri di altitudine garantendo superbe prestazioni e surclassando le precedenti versioni. Lo Spitfire Mk VII si caratterizzava per la cabina pressurizzata, l’elica a quattro pale, una fusoliera più lunga e per l’innovativa ala dal design appuntito alle estremità. Restò in produzione dall’agosto del 1942 ai primi mesi del 1944 e fu realizzato in più di 140 esemplari.

The Macchi C.202 Folgore (Italian “thunderbolt”) was an Italian fighter aircraft developed and manufactured by Macchi Aeronautica. It was operated mainly by the Regia Aeronautica (RA; Royal (Italian) Air Force) in and around the Second World War. According to aviation author David Mondey, the Folgore has been considered to be one of the best wartime fighters to serve in large numbers with the Regia Aeronautica.

The JU-87 dive bomber is certainly one of the best-known World War II aircraft. This characteristic "gull" aircraft gained great fame at the beginning of the war in a situation of general superiority of the German air force; as the conflict progressed, it showed all its limitations and was confined to the role of support for the troops in which, thanks to the considerable strength of the cell, it proved adequate, particularly on the Eastern Front.

In the last phase of the war the Stuka was also used as a night bomber making the best use of the qualities of its crews in a situation of absolute technical and numerical inferiority.

This is a 1/72 scale kit from Cyber-Hobby. It’s based on the F6F-5N (Item No.5080) that was released earlier, but it has a modified fuselage in keeping with the design of the F6F-3. Details such as the Double Wasp radial engine are absolutely stunning. The cockpit features a full interior, with even minute details rendered. The transparent canopy can be displayed open or closed, thus allowing the modeler to show off all the intrinsic detail. The wings can be shown extended or folded, as can the undercarriage. Cartograf decals offer various US and British unit marking options for this famous Hellcat fighter. The kit also comes with a selection or armaments (e.g 5-inch HVAR, 500lb bomb) to produce an authentic-looking model. This might be a Hellcat, but it will cause aircraft modelers to purr with delight!

Although it looked somewhat like its predecessor the F4F Wildcat, the single-seat F6F Hellcat was a completely new design from Grumman. It was a carrier-based fighter that served in the US Navy and US Marine Corps (USMC). The Hellcat is credited with destroying a staggering 5,271 enemy aircraft. Cyber-Hobby is releasing a 1/72 scale plastic kit of the first production version of the Hellcat, the F6F-3. In all, some 4,402 F6F-3 carrier-borne fighters were produced up till April 1944 before it was replaced by the F6F-5. The fighter’s standard armament was six .50-cal M2/AN Browning machine guns, while later aircraft possessed three hardpoints capable of carrying 900kg of bombs. Six High-Velocity Aircraft Rockets (HVAR) could also be mounted under its wings.
