The Beriev Be-6P (Qing-6) was a modified version of the Soviet Beriev Be-6, a maritime reconnaissance and patrol flying boat that first flew in 1949. The Be-6P was operated by the People’s Liberation Army Naval Air Force of China, which received about 20 Be-6 aircraft from the Soviet Union in the early 1960s. The Be-6P was equipped with new turboprop engines, WoJiang WJ-6, that increased its performance and payload capacity. The Be-6P was used for coastal and supply line patrols, anti-submarine warfare, mine-laying, and transport operations. It remained in service until the late 1990s, when it was replaced by the Harbin SH-5. One restored Be-6P is displayed at the China Aviation Museum in Beijing.
