The CF-100 was the only Canadian-designed fighter to enter mass production, serving primarily with the RCAF/CAF and in small numbers in Belgium. For its day, the CF-100 featured a short takeoff run and high climb rate, making it well suited to its role as an interceptor.

The Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck was a Canadian jet interceptor and fighter aircraft that served with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and later the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) from 1952 to 1981. It was the first Canadian-designed and built jet fighter to enter operational service. The CF-100 was developed during the Cold War to counter the threat of Soviet bombers attacking North America through the Arctic. It was designed with a twin-engine, straight-wing configuration that gave it excellent performance at high altitudes and subsonic speeds. The CF-100 was equipped with radar and air-to-air rockets, making it one of the most advanced fighters of its time.
The CF-100 was also known for its reliability and durability, earning it the nickname “Clunk”. The CF-100 served in various roles, including interceptor, fighter-bomber, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and trainer. It was deployed in Canada, Europe, and the United States, participating in NATO exercises and NORAD missions. The CF-100 was retired from service in 1981, after being replaced by the CF-101 Voodoo and the CF-18 Hornet. The CF-100 is considered a significant achievement in Canadian aviation history and a symbol of national pride and innovation.
