General Characteristics (M270B1 Variant)
The M270 MLRS is a US-designed, self-propelled, armored, multiple rocket launcher adopted by the British Army. It provides an all-weather, indirect, area fire weapon system for striking high-value targets deep inside enemy territory. The UK’s M270B1 is an enhanced version of the M270A1, featuring an improved fire control system (IFCS) and an enhanced armor package for crew protection against Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and shell fragments. The system is mounted on a stretched Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle tracked chassis, giving it high cross-country mobility. The entire fleet is currently being modernized to the M270A2 standard.
