Since the first M270s were delivered to the U.S. Army in 1983, the MLRS has been adopted by several NATO countries. Some 1,300 M270 systems have been manufactured in the United States and in Europe, along with more than 700,000 rockets. The production of the M270 ended in 2003, when a last batch was delivered to the Egyptian Army.

General Characteristics (M270B1 Variant)

The M270 MLRS is a US-designed, self-propelled, armored, multiple rocket launcher adopted by the British Army. It provides an all-weather, indirect, area fire weapon system for striking high-value targets deep inside enemy territory. The UKs M270B1 is an enhanced version of the M270A1, featuring an improved fire control system (IFCS) and an enhanced armor package for crew protection against Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and shell fragments. The system is mounted on a stretched Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle tracked chassis, giving it high cross-country mobility. The entire fleet is currently being modernized to the M270A2 standard.
