Fotogalerija nepovratnih sredstev M3A5 II, Srednje tank M3 was an American tank used during World War II. In Britain the tank was called by two names based on the turret configuration. Tanks employing US pattern turrets were called the “General Lee”, named after Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Variants using British pattern turrets were known as “General Grant”, named after U.S. General Ulysses S. Grant. Design commenced in July 1940, and the first M3s were operational in late 1941.

The **ZU-23-2**, or **ZU-23**, is a Soviet-designed, towed 23 mm anti-aircraft twin-barreled autocannon. It was developed in the late 1950s and entered service with the Soviet Army in 1960. It remains one of the most widely used and reliable anti-aircraft systems globally.

Role and Design

  • Primary Role: To engage low-flying aircraft, helicopters, and drones at an effective range of up to 2.5 kilometers and an altitude of up to 1.5–2 kilometers.
  • Secondary Role: Due to its high rate of fire and powerful rounds, it is highly effective against lightly armored ground targets and infantry positions up to 2 kilometers.
  • Configuration: The system mounts two 23 mm 2A14 autocannons on a small two-wheeled carriage.
  • Mobility: It is designed to be highly mobile, easily towed by various military vehicles, and can be converted from a travelling to a firing position in a matter of seconds. In an emergency, it can be fired from the traveling position.
  • Firing Platform: In the combat position, the wheels are moved aside, and the weapon rests on three jacks/outriggers for stability.

Technical Specifications (General)

  • Caliber: 23 mm
  • Ammunition: 23x152mm B (used both High Explosive Fragmentation and Armor-Piercing Tracer rounds)
  • Rate of Fire: The cyclic rate of fire from both barrels combined is around **2,000 rounds per minute**, though the practical rate of fire is closer to 400 rounds per minute due to the need for bursts to allow for cooling.
  • Feeding System: Each gun is fed by a 50-round belt from an ammunition box mounted on the side of the mount.
  • Aiming: It is typically aimed manually using the ZAP-23 optical-mechanical sight for air targets and a straight-tube telescope for ground targets.

The ZU-23-2 is renowned for its **simplicity, reliability, and robust construction**, making it a popular choice for forces worldwide. It is often seen mounted on “technicals” (pickup trucks) for improved mobility and ground support.
