O M113 é um veículo blindado de transporte de pessoal totalmente rastreado que formou a espinha dorsal das unidades de infantaria mecanizada do Exército dos Estados Unidos desde o momento de seu primeiro campo no Vietnã em abril de 1962. Versão M113A1 : A partir de 1964, o motor a gasolina foi substituído por um motor diesel de 215 hp (160 kW), para aproveitar a melhor economia de combustível e reduzir o risco de incêndio do motor a diesel. O sufixo A1 foi usado em todas as variantes para denotar um motor diesel, ou seja, um M106A1 era um suporte de morteiro M106 equipado com um motor a diesel.
