Still in production, the Islander is one of the best-selling commercial aircraft types produced in Europe. Although designed in the 1960s, over 750 are still in service with commercial operators around the world. The aircraft is a light transport with over 30 military aviation operators around the world.

It was designed by John Britten and Desmond Norman, who founded the Britten-Norman company in 1953. The Islander is a light utility aircraft and regional airliner that can carry up to 10 passengers or various types of cargo. The Islander first flew on June 13th, 1965, powered by two Rolls-Royce/Continental IO-360B piston engines. Later models used more powerful Lycoming O-540-E engines or Rolls Royce Model 250 B17 turboprop engines. The Islander has a low wing design with fixed tricycle landing gear and a constant chord wing.
