Le K2 Pantera Nera (Hangul: K2 '흑표'; Hanja: K2 '黑豹') è un carro armato principale sudcoreano di nuova generazione progettato dall'Agenzia sudcoreana per lo sviluppo della difesa e prodotto da Hyundai Rotem. Sviluppato come un moderno carro armato da battaglia principale che sostituirà la maggior parte dei restanti carri armati M48 Patton e completerà la serie K1 di carri armati principali attualmente schierati dall'esercito sudcoreano, il K2 Black Panther combina un cannone principale calibro 55 da 120 mm caricato automaticamente, un'armatura composita avanzata insieme a sistemi di protezione attiva hard e soft-kill. La produzione di massa è iniziata nel 2013 e i primi K2 sono stati schierati con le forze armate nel giugno 2014. Il K2 costa oltre 8,5 milioni di dollari per unità, rendendolo uno dei carri armati principali più costosi in servizio, di qualsiasi nazione.

General Characteristics
The K2 Black Panther is a modern Main Battle Tank developed by Hyundai Rotem for the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) to replace older tanks and complement the K1 series. Designed as a 4th-generation MBT, it incorporates advanced domestic and foreign technologies, notably a high-velocity 120 mm gun with an autoloader, sophisticated composite armor, and a hydropneumatic suspension system that allows for posture control. It is considered one of the most technologically advanced and expensive tanks in the world.

Armament and Fire Control

Protection and Mobility

- Active Protection: Fitted with a soft-kill Active Protection System (APS) that includes a Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS) and automatic deployment of Visual and Infrared Screening Smoke (VIRSS) grenades.

- Suspension: Semi-active In-arm Suspension Unit (ISU), which allows the tank to “kneel” or tilt to adjust the gun’s elevation/depression.
- Deep Fording: Equipped with an elaborate snorkel system that allows it to cross rivers and water obstacles up to 4.1–5 meters deep.
