További információ:

The Polikarpov Po-2 was a Soviet biplane that served as an all-weather multirole aircraft during World War II. It was also known as U-2, for its initial training role, and Kukuruznik, for its agricultural use. The Po-2 was simple to produce and maintain, and more than 20,000 units were built. In flight, it was very reliable and forgiving of most pilot errors.
The Po-2 was used for various tasks on the Eastern Front, such as liaison, medevac, supply, reconnaissance and psychological warfare. It was especially effective as a night harassment bomber, flying at low altitude and dropping bombs on German positions. The Po-2 was nicknamed Nähmaschine (sewing machine) by the Germans because of the distinctive sound of its engine. One of the most famous units that flew the Po-2 was the 588th Night Bomber Regiment, composed entirely of female pilots and mechanics. Some of them flew over a thousand missions and received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
The Po-2 was also used in the Korean War by the North Korean and Chinese forces. It proved to be surprisingly resilient against jet fighters, thanks to its low speed and maneuverability. The Po-2 remained in service until the late 1950s, when it was replaced by more modern aircraft. However, it is still remembered as one of the most versatile and successful light combat aircraft of the Soviet Union.
