Zu Dragons zuvor veröffentlichtem Plastikbausatz im Maßstab 1:35 eines Desert Raider 4×4 Trucks gesellt sich dieses zweite Kit mit einer anderen Waffenkonfiguration! Der berühmte Special Air Service (SAS) der britischen Armee wurde im Juli 1941 von David Stirling gegründet. Es war eine Kommandotruppe, die tief hinter den feindlichen Linien operieren sollte, was sie sehr erfolgreich tat. In Nordafrika wurden speziell angepasste Fahrzeuge eingesetzt, darunter der berühmte 4×4 1/4-Tonnen-Truck, obwohl er für seine Rolle hinter den Linien stark modifiziert wurde. Das Fahrzeug begann im Juli 1942 zu erscheinen. Sie wurden im Allgemeinen abgebaut, um Gewicht zu sparen, und für den Betrieb im heißen Klima wurde der Grill entfernt und ein Wasserkondensator eingebaut. Waffen wie Lewis- und Vickers-K-Maschinengewehre wurden für den Einsatz gegen Boden- oder Luftziele montiert.

Die Douglas A-3"Skywarrior"war ein strategischer Atombomber, der für die US Navy entwickelt wurde. Das Flugzeug hatte einen weitgehend konventionellen Halbmonocoque-Rumpf, mit zwei J57-Turbojet-Triebwerken in unterflügelten Gondeln, a-3-Flügeln können für die Lagerung unter Deck gefaltet werden, radargesteuerter Heckturm und eine Besatzung von drei. Das A-3 Skywarrior Projekt begann 1947, der Prototyp XA3D-1 flog erstmals am 28. Oktober 1952, wurde 1956 mit dem Navy Heavy Attack Squadron One in Dienst gestellt. Douglas baute insgesamt 282 Skywarriors.

The T-62 originally was conceived as a companion weapon to the T-55.Being Essentially a T55 up gunned with the2A20 115mm cannon. Both the T-55 and the T-62 Used the same wheels, track, engine, transmission, hatches and other fittings. The primary differences between the two vehicles were the T-62’s lengthened hull and new turret design. The new UT-5 can-non could fire its BR-5 APFSDS steel round through approximately 300mm of armor at a range of 1000 meters. This was adequate to deal with the then perceived threat of such NATO tanks as the American M-48 and later models of the British Centurion. The T-62 was meant to add long range firing capability to Soviet tank regiments being placed alongside T-55s, but in the later years of its deployment it fulfilled much the same role as the T-55. Despite being introduced in 1960, the improved performance of its successors, the T-72, the T-62 still sees service today in many of the world’s army the Arab nations being the largest consumers outside the Warsaw pact. Egypt, Iraq, and Syria have been notable users of the T-62, Israel has acquired a quantity of T-62s in clashes with its neighbors and has rebuilt them to IDF standards.

Als Deutschland in den 1930er Jahren im Vorfeld des Zweiten Weltkriegs versuchte, wieder aufzurüsten, verließ sich die militärische Führung stark auf die Pz.Kpfw.I. Etwa 1.493 Exemplare aller Typen wurden gebaut und diese leichten Panzer dienten in frühen Kampagnen, obwohl sie nur Trainingsplattformen sein sollten. Die Massenproduktion der Ausf.A begann 1934, während die verbesserte Ausf.B mit einem anderen Motor im August 1935 erschien. Der Ausf.B wurde verlängert und hatte fünf Straßenräder pro Seite. Der Panzer I war dünn gepanzert mit nur 13mm Stahl an seiner dicksten Stelle. Es operierte mit einer Zweierbesatzung – dem Kommandanten/Richtschützen und dem Fahrer. Eine ungewöhnliche Version dieses kleinen Panzers war die Abwurfvorrichtung. Diese modifizierten Panzer wurden typischerweise 1940 im Panzer-Pionier-Bataillon der Panzerdivisionen rechtzeitig für den Feldzug in Westeuropa gefunden. Der Umbau umfasste eine auf dem Hinterdeck montierte Vorrichtung, die eine 50 kg schwere Sprengladung auf oder gegen eine Feldbefestigung absenken konnte, bevor sie dann detonierte.

Der Siluro a lenta Corsa (SLC) or slow course torpedo, also know as the Maiale or Pig, was designed by the Italians in the late 1930s using the knowledge they had gained while pionnering midget submarines and special assault craft during the First World War. It was powered by an electric motor and had a charge-head containing 550lb (250Kg) on TNT. The early SLC served as a model for the British ‘Chariot’. Between 1941 and the Italian armistice of 1943 ‘human torpedos’ scored a number of successes against Aliied shipping. Their most famous attack came in 1941 in Alexandria harbour when three of them seriously damaged the British battleships Valiant and Queen Elizabeth. This is on of the later streamlined craft which fell into British hands after the occupation of Genoa in April 1945.

das Martin B-57 Canberra was a twin jet engine tactical bomber that has equipped the United States Air Force from the mid of 50s. Its robust aerodynamic design and its great reliability made it ideal for the role of tactical bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. It was equipped with two Wright J65 turbojet engine and it was able to reach 960 km / h. Thanks to its bomb bay and its four external hardpoints it was able to carry an offensive load of 3,300 Kg. During its long operating activities, several versions had been developed. In particular the B-57G, derived from the B-57B, was developed as night intruder. Easily recognizable by the added “radome”, the B-57G played an important role during the Vietnam War to support combats along the Ho Chi Minh trail. It was equipped with a new radar, a more modern avionics and, in particular, a variety of sensors able of dropping laser guided bombs.

The subject of Dragon’s latest 1/72 scale plastic kit is a delightful model of the American-designed Sikorsky SH-3G Sea King helicopter. Originally, the twin-engine SH-3 Sea King was used primarily in the role of anti-submarine warfare (ASW) by the US Navy (USN). It was also the first amphibious helicopter in the world and it entered USN service in 1961. Various modifications occurred in its lifespan, with a total of 105 SH-3A and SH-3D craft being converted into the versatile SH-3G. The latter was a cargo, utility and transport helicopter used by the USN. In the 1990s the SH-3 Sea King was replaced by the SH-60 Seahawk in the USN. This 1/72 scale Dragon plastic model is well designed and cleverly engineered to induce maximum modeling enjoyment. The fuselage is correctly proportioned and it’s furnished with a full level of detail both inside and outside. It has a new part to plug the gap where the sonar was originally located. The foldable rotor blades are made to true scale thickness too. With appropriate Cartograf decal markings for several USN squadrons available, this SH-3G is ready to lift off in service of the navy!
