The Battle of the Ardennes is the name given to all the military operations that took place in the Belgian Ardennes and the north of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg during the winter of 1944-1945. The battle began on December 16, 1944 with a surprise German attack, known as the "Offensive von Rundstedt". He was opposed to it: he felt that the objective was too ambitious. The Anglo-Americans call it "Battle of the Bulge" because of the corner shape that the front line had taken when German penetration was stopped. The Battle of the Bulge ended at the end of January 1945 after the Germans were pushed back beyond their starting line.

Le ZiS-3 ( russe : 76-мм дивизионная пушка образца 1942 года (ЗиС-3)) était un canon divisionnaire de campagne de 76,2 mm, utilisé par l’armée soviétique pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Beaucoup d’experts en artillerie classent ce canon parmi les meilleures pièces d’artillerie de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, avec le Canon de 88 allemand et l’obusier de 25 livres britannique. ZiS signigie “Zavod imeni Stalina” (en Russe Завод имени Сталина, ‘usine au nom de Staline’), le nom officiel de la fabrique d’artillerie No. 92 de Moscou qui a commencé la production de ce canon.

The Panzerkampfwagen VI King's Tiger, or Sd.Kfz. 182 Panzer VI ausf B Tiger II, nicknamed the Konigstiger (Royal Tiger), is a German tank of the Second World War. Produced at 50 units for the "Porsche" turret model, 439 units for the "Henschel" turret model, this tank was equipped with a large armour, an anti-tank gun giving it the ability to put out of action all Allied tanks in service during the last two years of the conflict, but it had the same engine as the Panther tank. Its weight-to-power ratio was therefore lower, it was slow and unsylenceable, extremely fuel-intensive, and had to change tracks before and after any rail transport.

The SdKfz 171 Panzer V Panther was a battle tank used by the German army during World War II, from mid-1943 to May 8, 1945. Designed to counter the Soviet T-34 tank and replace the Panzerkampfwagen III and Panzerkampfwagen IV, it ultimately served alongside them until the end of the war. Until an order from Adolf Hitler, dated February 27, 1944, it was designated as PzKpfw V Panther and, in the ordinance inventory, as Sd.Kfz. 171.

La Deutsches Afrikakorps (en abrégé Afrika Korps, Afrikakorps ou DAK) était le quartier général commandant les divisions allemandes de panzers dans le désert de Libye et d’Égypte occidentale, puis en Tunisie, pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Peu à peu, le nom Afrika Korps engloba le QG et les unités militaires qui lui étaient rattachées. La DAK fut formée le 19 février 1941 après la décision d’envoyer un corps expéditionnaire en Libye1 pour soutenir les troupes de Mussolini. En effet, les Italiens étaient bloqués par la contre-offensive du VIIIe corps d’armée britannique, contre-offensive appelée Opération Compass. Le corps expéditionnaire allemand était commandé par le Général Erwin Rommel et avait à l’origine pour seule mission de reconquérir la Cyrénaïque et la Libye. La DAK n’a jamais été accusé de crime de guerre.

Le SdKfz 161 Panzerkampfwagen IV (PzKpfW IV), souvent appelé Panzer IV était un char d’assaut de classe moyenne utilisé par l’Allemagne nazie durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Conçu initialement comme char d’appui-feu — avec un canon de 75 mm court KwK 40 — pour le Panzerkampfwagen III, il finit par remplacer ce dernier quand les chars alliés devinrent trop protégés pour celui-ci. Rééquipé avec un canon long antichar (75 mm KwK 40 L/43), le PzKpfW IV fut le principal char allemand pendant la seconde partie de la guerre avec plus de 9 000 exemplaires produits et donna naissance à de nombreuses versions.
