Le Light Tank M3 est un char léger produit par les États-Unis au cours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et aussi utilisé par les forces britanniques et du Commonwealth. Son surnom de General Stuart ou simplement Stuart lui a été donné par les Britanniques en hommage au général J.E.B. Stuart de la guerre de Sécession. Certaines troupes utilisaient le terme non-officiel de Honey alors que les Américains gardaient la désignation officielle Light Tank M3.

The Soviets, who had already experimented with the construction of self-propelled cannons, both on a truck basis and on a tank basis, produced some Komsomoletz early in the war, based on a 57mm Zis-2 gun mounted on tractor chassis. In 1943, they produced the SU-85 and, at the end of 1944, the SU-100, which combined a powerful cannon on a modern chassis providing full armour. It had the advantage of being relatively cheap to produce and having a cannon a little more powerful than the one that equipped the tank from which it derided, which gave the Russians great flexibility.

Created by the Porsche engineer, the VW 166 Schwimmwagen est une voiture amphibie montée sur des éléments mécaniques ressemblant au ceux de la Volkswagen Coccinelle. Des réducteurs de roues augmentent la garde au sol et le couple de propulsion et une prise de force transmet le mouvement au différentiel de l’avant train, donnant la capacité 4X4 en première et marche arrière seulement. Les différentiels sont du type auto-bloquant à galets. Ce train de roulement et cette transmission ont été aussi installés sur les carrosseries de Kobelwagen et de “Coccinelle” (Kommandeurwagen”). Un embout d’hélice relevable, connecté au moteur en position basse, permet la propulsion dans l’eau en marche avant seulement. Elle était particulièrement bien adaptée au front russe où les chemins étaient trop boueux pour être accessibles par d’autres véhicules.

Le char Churchill ou plus officiellement, Infantry Tank MkIV ou A22, est un char britannique utilisé lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il est le dernier aboutissement du concept de char d’infanterie, en vigueur alors dans l’armée britannique. Il était réputé pour son solide blindage, et pour avoir servi de base à de nombreux dérivés spéciaux, les Hobart’s Funnies. Après des débuts difficiles, il fut produit à près de 8 400 exemplaires et servit honorablement dans l’armée britannique jusqu’en 1952. Il reçut son nom en l’honneur de Winston Churchill qui, en plus d’être le premier ministre de l’époque, avait pris une part importante, lors de la Première Guerre mondiale, à l’émergence des premiers chars d’assaut. Celui-ci aurait déclaré à ce propos : « Ce tank a encore plus de défauts que moi ».

Originally designed as a fire support tank and armed with a 75 mm short KwK 37 L/24 gun for Panzer IV Mr. Ausf. A / B / C / D / E / F, it was rearmed with a long anti-tank gun 75 mm KwK 40 L/43 from March 1942 for the Panzer IV Ausf. F2 / G / H / J. It was developed to engage enemy armoured vehicles (first with a 3.7-cm KwK 36 L/45 anti-tank gun, then from October 1940 with a 5-cm KwK 38 L/42, then a 5-cm L/60 in June 1942), while the Panzer IV, which was contemporary to it, had been planned to provide support fire to infantry troops with a 7.5-cm KwK 37 L/24. However, with the emergence of increasingly protected Allied tanks, only the Panzer IV was able to carry weapons capable of destroying them (with a 7.5-cm KwK 40 L/43 cannon from March 1942), and it supplanted the Panzer III comme char principal de la Wehrmacht. Elle est principalement utilisée pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Elle tire son nom de ses concepteurs Vassili Degtiarev (en), qui a conçu l’arme originale (en 1935), et Gueorgui Chpaguine, qui en a amélioré le mécanisme d’alimentation (en 1938), modifiant l’arme pour qu’elle puisse recevoir des bandes métalliques de 50 balles (au lieu de 30 pour l’arme originale).
