The BTR 60 is an armoured personnel carrier (APC) that was developed by the Soviet Union in the late 1950s. It was the first Soviet APC to have eight wheels and an independent suspension system, which improved its mobility and cross-country performance. The BTR 60 was also equipped with a 14.5 mm heavy machine gun and a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun in a small turret, as well as two firing ports on each side of the hull. The BTR 60 could carry up to 14 soldiers in addition to the crew of two. The BTR 60 was widely used by the Soviet Army and its allies in various conflicts around the world, such as the Vietnam War, the Arab-Israeli wars, the Afghan War, and the Chechen wars. The BTR 60 was also exported to many countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The BTR 60 was later replaced by more advanced models, such as the BTR 70 and the BTR 80, but some variants are still in service today.
